THE INFORMATION BELOW IS PRELIMINARY AND WILL BE UPDATED AS DETAILS ARE FINALISED

Transport & Start Area Logistics

The start and finish of the Borneo 100 Miler is at Kadamaian Square at Taginambur along the Kadamaian River in Kota Belud. (6° 13'41.32"N, 116°27'8.31"E) about 1.5 - 2 hours drive northeast of Kota Kinabalu.

The venue is relatively remote with no easy access via public transport and limited accommodation options in close proximity to the start/finish. Optional bus transport from Kota Kinabalu to the start area on the morning of the race (Saturday morning for the 100 mile race and Sunday morning for the 25 km) and from the finish area back to Kota Kinabalu after the race is offered - see below.

Self-drive

For self-drive to the start, please be aware of extensive road works from Kota Kinabalu to Tuaran. Caution has to be exercised at night in particular. Not considering traffic and delayes due to road works, it is about 1.5 hours' drive, but we recommend assuming a minimum of 2 hours for the drive. This can be significantly extended in heavier traffic with delays due to the road works common. There are two main routes: The shorter is heading towards Kundasang and then turning left on Jalan Ranau Bypass. This involves a steep downhill section that requires caution. A longer but less hilly option is via Kota Belud and then catching the Jalan Kota Belud - Ranau from north. Unless familiar with the terrain, we would recommend the route via Kota Belud.

For those driving to the start, we encourage carpooling to avoid congestion with parked cars. Please follow signboards and instructions for parking at the venue.

Optional Transport

Optional transport from Kota Kinabalu (KK) to the start/finish area and from the finish area back to Kota Kinabalu can be booked and paid for via the Racematix registration platform. The transport needs to be booked and paid for well in advance of the race, preferably together with the registration for the event.

A central pick-up / drop-off location in Kota Kinabalu will be along Jalan Padang close to the entrance to the town padang and close to the Dreamtel Hotel at approximate coordinates:  5°58'48.99"N, 116° 4'34.14"E). This location is within easy walking distance from a range of accommodation in central KK, and easily reached by taxi or grab from accommodation further afield. Please note that the exact location along Jalan Padang will depend on the available space in the morning at the pickup and may vary slightly.

Provisional bus departure times are listed below for transport from Kota Kinabalu to the start. These may be adjusted if required to suit any adjustments of the starting times of the different categories. Please be at the designated departure point a minimum of 10 minutes in advance to board the bus. Buses will not wait for late-comers.

Bus departure times from KK to Start:

  1. 100 Mile:            3rd June 2023 at 3:00 a.m.
  2. 25 km:               4th June 2023 at 4:00 a.m

The return trips from the finish line will run through the day on Sunday and Monday as required. Please be prepared for long waiting time for the vans to fill up for the return trips. We will use 10-seater vans for the returns to reduce waiting times, but with a limited number of participants over a very long race course, finishers will be well spread out over time.

Please note that the return buses will not run through the night due to safety concerns and past experience. The last bus to Kota Kinabalu will leave between 11 pm and midnight. Buses will restart around 6 to 7 a.m. in the morning.

The first finishers of the 100-mile race are expected during Sunday, with a significant proportion of competitors going into the night between Sunday and Monday or finishing during the Monday morning. There is no accommodation provided at the finish line, and for competitors who expect to finish during the night we recommend to come prepared for spending the night at the finish area. There is a large open hall and roofs that a tent can be pitched under for privacy. There are some homestays and lodges in the area, and more accommodation options within 10-15 km from the venue at Kota Belud, Malangkap and Tambatuan for some examples.

 Transport for Supporters

Transport may also be booked for family members and supporters who wish to go to the start and finish to watch the race and support. The transport from KK to the start, and from the finish line back to KK will be on the buses/vans with competitors.

Drop-bags, Finisher bags

Halfway drop-bags (100-mile category) and finisher bags (both categories) must be taken to the start area and deposited at the designated area if the organisers are to take of these. For the 100-mile category we encourage to use a single bag for the halfway and finish to avoid any confusion. For half-way and finisher bags please note:

  • It is recommended to use waterproof bags.
  • Bags must be clearly labeled with bib number and name/telephone number.
  • The organizers cannot take responsibility for any damage or loss.
  • Please do not include any valuables in bags.
  • Please make sure bags are deposited in the correct location (there may be different areas for 100 mile and 25 km).
  • Bags must be picked up at the finish area after completing the race - please present your bib to collect.
  • The organization will not be held responsible for bags that are not collected.

Start Area Logistics

We require the cooperation of all participants for a smooth and orderly registration and start with no delays. Some pointers are outlined below:

  • Please make your way to the hall for luggage deposit and registration.

LUGGAGE DEPOSIT AND REGISTRATION

  • If you have a halfway/finish bag, please deposit this at the designated area.
  • Your drop bag, if any, must be clearly and securely marked with bib number
  • After the bag drop you must proceed to get scanned in to be officially registered for the race.
  • Immediately after registration - please move away from the registration area to avoid congestion.

 TOILETS

  • Toilets are available at the end of and behind the hall.
  • Please be considerate - be quick to give fellow participants a chance and keep the toilets clean.
  • Please note that the toilets are without toilet paper and with the use of water to avoid any clogging.

RACE START

  • The 100-mile category will start at 6 am. Line up behind the starting arch and be ready for start at least 10 minutes before start.
  • Please be realistic about your pace and allow the top runners to be in front at the start.
  • There is subsequently several kilometers of wide road to allow runners to spread out and find their spot in the field prior to entering any small trails.
  • Please respect proper trail etiquette on the smaller trails - give way to faster runners, no pushing and respect each other's space and pace.
  • If you are using poles, be extremely cautious not to hit fellow participants during a crowded start.
