The Borneo100 Miler is set for June 3-5 2023.

The first Borneo 100 Miler was conducted in 2020 as part of the Borneo Ultra Trail Marathon with the race course set over the ridges and in the valleys surrounding Kiulu. We are happy to announce that we are reviving the race for 2023 on an entirely new course.

We have a race course set up and tested as presented under the "Maps, Profiles and Data" tab. Final checking and coordination with local communities and relevant authorities may lead to minor amendments of the course. Any amendments will be updated well prior to the race.

The subsequent information is to be considered preliminary and may be updated as details are finalised and approved.

The Race

The Borneo 100 Miler was first introduced in 2020 as part of the long-running Borneo Ultra Trail Marathon. It was an extension of the 100 km course to reach the total distance of 100 miles with a total elevation gain of close to 8000 m.

The 2023 edition will be a "stand-alone" event on an entirely new race course. The new race course has been designed to be mostly runnable over variable terrain ranging from gravel and dirt roads through forests, along paddy fields and wetlands and over open grasslands. There are also trail segments through forest and up over hills with spectacular views to both Mt. Kinabalu and the ocean. There will be aid stations every 10-18 km mostly set in quaint native villages.

Race Categories

DISTANCE CATEGORIES

The 2nd version of the Borneo 100 Miler will have the following distance categories:

  • 100 Miles
  • 25 km

The 100 Mile race starts on Saturday morning at 6 am in Taginambur, Kota Belud, along the Kadamaian river. It is designed as a figure "8" with the two different loops going out from the central start/finish and halfway location. This gives convenient access to halfway and finisher bags which can be handed in to the organisers at the central start/finish location.

The 25 km race will start Sunday morning and follow the start and final stages of the 100-mile route. This will give runners who are not up for the full 100 mile course a chance to be part of the event and add some extra life at the finish line.

AGE CATEGORIES

For each of the Male and Female genders, there will be 2 age categories:

  1. The "OVERALL" category includes all runners of the gender taking part in the race. Podium finishers will be awarded trophies and prizes.
  2. The "VETERAN" category is for participants 45 years and above on race date. Podium finishers will be given certificates or other recognition.
